“If you have to ask, you’re streets behind.”

Pierce insists his invented phrase streets ahead has already caught on. Annie asks whether it means cool or miles ahead; instead of explaining, Pierce dismisses her as streets behind. The joke is invented linguistic status defended by circular exclusion. An empty stone plinth occupies a theatrical spotlight behind a velvet exclusion rope. Cream and gold lettering spans the teal wall; the descending d becomes one rope support. The red carpet and polished posts confer importance on a display containing nothing.
