The artwork

In The Sopranos’ “Mayham,” Christopher reads this saying from Tony’s hospital wall during his recovery. Its outward perspective contrasts with Tony’s vulnerability and dependence on care. A curtain and bed rail frame a distant city beneath sweeping blue-and-gold sky. Cream opening words give way to dark lettering within the broad wind band, interpreting the saying’s shift from inward worry toward a wider perspective.

The scene

Mayham · Season 6, Episode 3

Tony has regained consciousness after a critical coma. Family and colleagues gather around his hospital recovery. Christopher notices and reads a saying displayed on the wall, then turns to asking Tony to back his film project. Recovery depends on care and forces outside Tony's control. The words offer perspective beyond self-pity, while ordinary self-interested demands resume around him. The saying's authentic cultural origin is not independently established.
