The artwork

In Chase Through The Subway, John Mulaney misreads a woman’s quickening pace during a late-night train transfer. He assumes she is hurrying for a train, only to realize that his attempt to catch it is what makes her afraid. Front-facing cream and orange lettering frames two runners and an approaching train, preserving the comic misunderstanding.

The scene

The Top Part (2009), Chase Through The Subway

During a late-night subway transfer, Mulaney mistakes a woman's quickening pace for an attempt to catch a train. He accelerates too, then realizes that she is afraid of the man running behind her. The illustrated train, clothing and architecture are original interpretations of the misunderstanding.
